Description
The front of this Bomber Jacket showcases a classic Gold Bagua surrounding the Shuang xi symbol most commonly associated with the concept of “Double Happiness.” and seen blessing weddings and other celebrations.
The sleeves feature traditional Chinese gold and black dragons.
The back of this Bomber Jacket showcases The Chinese Medicine “Mystic Tablet.” According to Dr. Carus’ explanation, contains, on the shield of a tortoise (alluding to the animal that has revealed the Eight Trigrams to Fu Xi, and which was, in more canonical accounts, a “dragon horse” chart) with the 8 Trigrams, the 12 figures of Chinese animal cycle, etc. The centerpiece is another, smaller, tortoise, the one that revealed the Luoshu magic square to Yu the Great. Tibetan script appears in the center of this diagram. The “Mystic Tablet” attempts to represent the yih system of Chinese Medicine being cosmic in its nature, has been used by the Chinese sages to represent the universe. The first attempt in this direction is Fuh-Hi’s diagram in compass form representing the four quarters and four intermediary directions. It was supposed to have been revealed to Fuh-Hi on the back of a tortoise, but later sages superadded to the fundamental idea further characteristics of the universe, according to their more complicated knowledge of science and occultism. The tablet lies on the back of the tortoise, presumably the same as was supposed to have been present when P’an Ku chiseled the world from out of the rocks of eternity. The back also features a white rabbit from the tablet, at the top, which is a nod seekers everywhere who “follow the white rabbit” down the intellectual rabbit holes of knowledge and wisdom.
I Remastered it and did my best to improve and clarify this image originally created by an unknown Tibetan artist prior to 1895.
